FPT Bosch Fuel Injector Replacement Tutorial

Even the best fuel injectors eventually wear out. Replacing bad injectors keeps your diesel engine running at optimum performance. This tutorial shows how to replace a Bosch fuel injector on an FPT common rail engine, which is found in many Case IH and New Holland machines.

This engine already has the valve cover, rocker arms, fuel inlet tube, injector harness, and an old injector removed. Now let’s fit the new injector into place.

  1. Before inserting the new injector, be sure the copper sealing washer and the rubber O-ring are in place. Lubricate the O-ring with Vaseline or a similar grease.
  2. Slide the new injector into place, making sure that the fuel inlet tube hole in the injector is aligned with the fuel inlet tube bore in the head. Listen for the snap to confirm that the injector is properly seated.
  3. Now you’re ready to insert the fuel inlet tube. First, lubricate the O-ring on the tube with Vaseline or a similar grease. The fuel inlet tube has dimples to ensure it is properly oriented as you fit it into the head. Slide the fuel inlet tube into the tube bore, and the dimples will snap into place if properly oriented.
  4. Torque the new injector bolts to 9 Nm.
  5. Torque the fuel tube nut to 50 Nm.
  6. Now apply the final torque to the injector bolts by turning them an additional 75 degrees.
  7. Replace the injector harness and torque the nuts to 1.5 Nm.
